It was cold, windy and the first snowstorm of the season was bearing down, but nothing could deter the determined street hockey fanatics of Xerox from completing their mission.

Each year the staff of the Xerox Centre in the City of Lakes stage a street hockey tournament in the Frenchman's Lake parking lot to raise funds for United Way. This year's event, the sixth annual, featured five teams - The New Merry Men, the Iceaholics, C-Centre All Stars, The Old MacDonlads and The Finishers - and raised about $300 toward the company's overall target of $20,000 for the charity.

The tournament is just one part of Xerox's efforts on behalf of the United Way. All of the staff participates in a series of fundraisers throughout the month of November, ranging from bake sales, pancake breakfasts and desk-side coffee service to pizza sales, a chili cook-off and a silent gift basket auction. The centre is well on its way to meeting this year's goal.

Meanwhile, back at the hockey tournament, last year's defending champs, the Insiderz, didn't return to defend their title. Instead, their rivals from last year's playoffs, the Iceaholics, prevailed to capture the coveted trophy and a year's worth of bragging rights. Members of the winning team include: Michael Macinnis (goalie), Robert Gough, Richard Bedard, George Macdonald, Bryan Shaban and Paul Holwell.
