With summer now officially ended and the cooler days of fall arriving, our minds turn to winter sports and the start of a new curling season.
The Burnside Curling League (BCL) is looking for people interested in joining this popular winter pastime. The co-ed league is open to all ages and no experience is necessary.
The BCL plays at the historic Halifax Curling Club and offers a wide range of experience within its membership; brand new curlers are welcomed just the same as experienced ones. If you wish to play, put a team together or submit your name and the League will find a team for you.
“Everyone is welcome!” says Tom Redford, league organizer. “Curling is a super social sport where you have fun and meet new people. It’s even a great way for sales people to network!”
The League also has weekly 50-50 draws and a free pizza night before the Christmas/New Year break as well as the last night of the season.
The league plays each Tuesday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. and is seeking spares and some full time players and possibly one full team. Positions will fill up quickly… inquire soon if you are interested!
Curling begins with a Fun Night to meet new and returning players and some recreational time on the ice. The regular season commences the following week. Fees are $250 per person. There are free loaner brooms, sliders, etc. at the club, so no equipment is required. The league schedule provides approximately 20 nights of curling with a two-week break at Christmas.
