While GMAC and Sameday continue to trade first place back and forth, the Heavy Hitters has quietly emerged as a strong and steady contender in the BudLight Burnside Slow-pitch Baseball League.

The Heavy Hitters have demonstrated a consistency of play that has kept the team in third place almost from the start of the season. Hanging just behind the two perennial frontrunners, it would seem the team is just one ingredient away from challenging for the title this season.

Meanwhile, the standings all around them continue to fluctuate. In addition to GMAC and Sameday jostling each other around, BudLight and the Dartmouth Old Guys (DOGs) are doing the same sort of dance for fourth place, with Bird Stairs occasionally trying to cut in as well.

However, there is some stability to be found in the lower half of the standings, with Wilson Auto, Canada Post, Joe Johnson and Source Atlantic consistently placing seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.

Featured Game of the Month

Source Atlantic continued to struggle at the plate during the team’s meeting with BudLight on June 22.

The team played well enough defensively, blanking their higher ranked opponent in the first and holding them to just two runs in the second and third. They likewise held BudLight to just single scores in the fourth and sixth.

However, BudLight was able to breakout for five runs in the fifth. Those runs hardly mattered, though, since Source Atlantic only managed to score three runs all game – two coming in the fourth and one in the sixth.

The team seems to be lacking a long ball threat. One or two hitters capable of consistently putting the ball over the fence would likely turn the team’s fortunes around considerably.
