Burnside -

Game Breakers new hockey training facility in Burnside may get a big visibility boost later this month during Waterfront Winterfest, a three-day celebration on the Halifax waterfront being put on by the Waterfront Development Corporation Limited (WDCL).

Visitors to Winterfest will be able to enjoy free outdoor skating at the C100 Skating Rink, which will feature IcePro's synthetic ice surface - the same synthetic ice product currently in use at the new Game Breakers' facility on Raddal Avenue in Burnside. The rink will be located just behind the Waterfront Warehouse Restaurant, in what organizers are calling Block M.

The Winterfest event is designed to bring a piece of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, snow sculpting, public skating, snowboarding and more to the Halifax Waterfront on February 26-28. In addition to the IcePro skating rink, attendees can participate in:

• Extreme Snow Sculpting at Bishop's Landing;

• the Urban Butter Snowboard Showcase and Competition and the Canada Games Pavilion in Block M; and

• the Indoor Playland, featuring bouncy inflatables and games from Glow Parties at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront.

As part of WDCL's commitment to the festival, it's offering free weekend parking at all WDCL parking lots for Saturday, February 27 and Sunday, February 28.

A larger than life screen on the waterfront will showcase the CTV Olympic live broadcast of the gold medal events and the official closing ceremonies.

In addition to all of the "shoreside" activities, Waterfront restaurateurs and storeowners are ready to welcome visitors.
