The REALTORS® Miles for Meals campaign aims to feed families in need throughout Nova Scotia by raising $25,000 for FEED NOVA SCOTIA. The premiere rally event will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to launch the effort.
"There's no overlooking it; too many people in Nova Scotia go hungry." says Roger Boutilier, executive officer for the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® (NSAR). "Kids should not go hungry in this province and I would like to change that."
Boutilier will cycle tip-to-tip across Nova Scotia for the Miles for Meals campaign, organized by NSAR in support of FEED NOVA SCOTIA. The journey is expected to take two weeks, beginning August 11 in Sydney and ending August 25 in Yarmouth. Boutilier will cover more than 700 kilometers and will visit several communities along the way. He has invited realtors to cycle with him, make donations and collect pledges in support of the campaign.
"As realtors we strive to make a difference in the communities in which we live and work," says NSAR President Wayne MacIntosh. "Many of our members are actively involved in various charitable efforts, and this campaign is just another example of how realtors give back to the community."
To celebrate the start of the event, NSAR and FEED NOVA SCOTIA invites the public to join them at the premiere rally event that includes a bicycle safety rodeo with safety instruction by the Halifax Regional Police. Parents can bring their children, their bikes and helmets for some road safety advice. Non-perishable food or cash donations will be accepted for FEED NOVA SCOTIA.
The event will take place in the Dartmouth Crossing parking lot, right off of Countryview Drive and Commodore Drive adjacent to Globo Shoes. A brief presentation by MacIntosh and Dianne Swinemar, executive director for FEED NOVA SCOTIA, will commence the activities at 4 p.m.
