The Burnside Business Watch is based in the HRP East Division headquarters.
The Burnside Business Watch is looking for a few good men and women. The Watch is in the middle of a recruitment drive to get its numbers back up after losing several members earlier this year.
Sherry Burns, the volunteer coordinator for the Halifax Regional Police, says the Watch is currently down to seven members from its usual average of 10 to 12. Burns hopes to recruit three or four new members right away, with another three or four coming aboard over the next several months.
The reduced numbers have resulted in a drop in the number of patrols the Watch members are able to run right now. Burns says that prior to the drop in membership, the Watch was recording about 58 hours of patrolling the Park in the evenings and on weekends. Currently, the reduced roster is averaging only 10 to 12 hours.
Burns' goal is to get those numbers back up. She says she would like to see a patrol going out every night of the week.
Anyone interested in assisting the Watch can contact Burns at 490-6976, or by email at email@example.com.
