Vidient Systems, the technology leader for advanced video analytics, and Impath Networks, a leading provider of IP video networking solutions, are integrating the Vidient SmartCatch® solution with the i5000 family of video encoders from Impath.
The integration, based on new video standards H.264 and RTSP, marries the sophisticated analytics from Vidient with improved video quality, bandwidth and data storage savings from the i5000 series for a superior solution for security and business intelligence applications.
The two companies' support of the latest video standards, including H.264 for compression and RTSP for video stream control, means more choices for customers and confidence that today's purchases will be compatible with future devices. These technologies offer significant advantages over previous generation approaches. H.264 provides higher quality images while consuming less than half the storage of MPEG-4. RTSP replaces proprietary video control protocols, which have locked customers into products from a single manufacturer.
SmartCatch, the industry leading solution for demanding video analytics applications, is enhanced through access to higher quality video images offered by H.264. For example, the SmartCatch Track and Tunnel Intrusion Detection (T2ID) solution, the only product that can detect tunnel intruders while a train is passing, is often deployed in very dark environments, where video quality is paramount. Improved video quality leads directly to increased detection rates while lowering the chance of false alarms.
Also enhanced through this integration is the SmartCatch self-learning engine, which automatically adjusts the analytics tuning parameters based on operator feedback, indicating whether an alert is positive or nuisance. With this capability, the system reduces nuisance alerts - those in which a legitimate violation is detected, but doesn't represent a threat. For example, at a major metro system, security personnel use golf carts to cross a large outdoor track area. The carts frequently breach an intrusion boundary, generating nuisance alarms. Using the self-learning tool, the system is trained to identify golf carts and suppress the resulting alarms. In this case the vast majority of nuisance alarms were eliminated.
H.264 compression and RTSP video control technologies significantly lower infrastructure costs for CCTV systems and improve interoperability. With the Impath high quality H.264 video stream, a customer can double the number of IP cameras on a given network, while halving the disk storage requirement. RTSP is a standard protocol that controls the flow of video data across a network, permitting interoperability between systems that generate video data and those that consume it. Selecting systems that support RTSP increases customer choice and helps insure compatibility with future products.
