Best Buy, one of Canada’s fastest growing retailers of consumer electronics, computers and entertainment products, has opened its newest metro location at 11 Washmill Lake Court, Bayers Lake Business Park.

Best Buy marked the event with a weekend-long celebration in the form of a community festival. Many customers were on hand for a full slate of events and entertainment, including a long list of in-store deals and prize giveaways. Customers lined up on both Saturday and Sunday for the chance to win a $1,000 Best Buy gift card, as well as the chance to win up to 4,000 bonus Reward Zone points with each purchase through the Reward Zone scratch and win.

The Family Festival kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the presentation of a cheque for $5,000 to Big Brothers and Sisters of Halifax. A barbecue, pancake breakfast, carnival games and more followed during the weekend, including performances by Lana Grant, John Gracie, Chrissy Crowley, Ruth Minnikin, Dave Gunning, Norma MacDonald, Colin Darcy, Linda Brooks and Christina Martin. There was even a special appearance by Spider-Man for the kids.

The new store is the third in Canada to include a full musical instruments section, following the Kitchener and brand new St. John’s locations. There are hundreds of different instruments available and a free music lesson with the purchase of an instrument.
