Burnside -
Dear Burnside News,
Regardless of the small number of people that responded to the survey (as referenced in "Burnside pedway nears completion" in the January 2010 issue) or that we see risking life and limb crossing the Circumferential Highway, the pedway should have been constructed between Tim Horton's and Burgess Transfer.
This location is closer to a larger number of residents and they would use it rather than the location beside the overpass.
People obviously don't take into consideration the ramifications of them dodging vehicles as they use that method to go to their destinations. I have even seen a woman in a skirt and high heels climbing over the Jersey barrier.
Life is too short people!

Dear Burnside News,
So, what you are suggesting in this article ("Thinking about a pet for Christmas? Please think again!", December 2009 issue) is that it's better to leave the animal in a cage at the shelter over the Christmas holidays because he might get into a box of chocolates, or swallow some tinsel because the adoptive owners are just THAT irresponsible anyway.
So the animal is just better off waiting in a cage until AFTER the holidays rather than going home during the holidays, when everyone is home and actually DOES have the time to potty train and spend time with the animal and get him used to his surroundings.
This theory is just SO old school rescue. PLEASE NS SPCA get with the 21st century. North America's biggest adoption drive is DURING the holidays!!! Bring them home for holidays - check it out at the Website for Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (http://cfhs.ca/news/iams_home_4_the_holidays_launches_2009_pet_adoption_campaign_to_help_find_homes_for_1_5_million_homeless_animals/).
