One of the biggest country music acts of the last two decades is making its way to Burnside this month.
Multi-award winning American quartet Little Texas will be bringing their unique brand of torch and twang to The Rodeo Lounge on Friday, June 11.
The group, which formed in 1988 in Arlington, Texas, still spends close to 200 days on the road each year. The non-stop touring has earned the band a loyal following, resulting in both a string of sold-out shows and a series of chart-topping singles and albums.
Little Texas is just one of several big-name country music artists scheduled to visit HRM this year. Last month Aaron Pritchet rocked a full house at the Ilsley Avenue location, and later this summer the Halifax Commons will host Rockfest 2010, featuring Alan Jackson, Johnny Reid, George Canyon and Lonestar.
For fans of the genre, it doesn’t get any better.
“These are some of the most amazing artists out there today,” says Burnside resident Matthew Hearn. “I wouldn’t miss these shows for the world.”
His fiancée Kelly Shaw echoes the sentiment. “We’ve seen Alan Jackson in concert six times now down in the States. He has put on an amazing show each time. I still can’t believe he’s coming here!”
The couple agrees there’s much more to country music than meets the ear.
“It sounds simple, but good songwriting takes a lot of work,” says Hearn, an aspiring musician himself.
“Little Texas has been at it for a long time,” adds Shaw, who has been a fan since the early 1990s. “And they have only gotten better with age. This is our first time seeing them in concert though, and we’re really excited.”
