Mike Neumann, senior manager of operations for FedEx in Atlantic Canada, presents a donation of $5,000 to  Christopher Alkenbrack, president of the National CCSVI Society.

Mike Neumann was all smiles as he handed over a cheque for $5,000 to the National Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI) Society this afternoon.

"I was very pleased that this quarter's winner was local," says Neumann, referring to the four-times-per-year contest his employer, FedEx, runs on its Facebook page to support registered charities.

Neumann, senior manager of operations for FedEx in Atlantic Canada, says the contest is part of the FedEx Cares program and is a small part of the company's overall commitment to being a good corporate citizen and giving back to the communities it operates in.

On hand to accept the cheque was Christopher Alkenbrack, president of the National CCSVI Society. Alkenbrack says the money will come in handy for the Society in its continuing communication efforts. The Society is dedicated to bringing together patients and researchers to keep everyone up-to-date on the latest information regarding endovascular treatment, especially as it relates to the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis.

However, the Society is far from a one-issue group. It also looks at how blood flow issues affect a whole range of afflictions, from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's to Lyme disease and migraines; from chronic fatigue to irritable bowel.

"We are an all volunteer society," Alkenbrack says, "and this $5,000 will help us continue our mission. It will go toward such things as updating our website, creating information flyers and improving communications with doctors and patients on the latest research in this field."

I'm so encouraged by the work the volunteers do for all people with vascular issues!!! The NCS is my charity of choice because of the integrity of the board members and their expertise in the medical world and their compassionate and moral values. Thank you all for what you do for my son and all folks dealing with CCSVI. I have HOPE.
