Stone Depot, Atlantic Canadas largest importer of natural stone products, is rolling down the highway to Bayers Lake.

In May, the company will be relocating from their current spot on Bluewater Road in the Atlantic Acres Business Park to Ash Lake Court in the Bayers Lake Business Park. Dion Pardy, Vice President of Stone Depot in Halifax, says that the move is being made out of sheer necessity. We have expanded so much over the last couple of years that we had quite literally outgrown our old site, he states.

Pardy believes that the new location will allow the company to be much more competitive in an already crowded marketplace. We are going to be situated on 1-1/2 acres of land, with 5,600 square feet of interior showroom and storage space, he says. That means that we will now be able to stock all of our products on one site, with no delay in customer orders.

The recent growth in business, he adds, is the result of several industry trends. For one thing, we have enjoyed a real boom in the construction industry here in the Halifax area over the last decade, he says. Commercial, industrial and institutional development has been fairly strong, but the residential housing market has really come into its own.

With many in the field predicting more industry growth in the coming years, Pardy says that the future looks bright for Stone Depot.

I know the U.S housing market has had its issues over the past while, he says, but it hasnt seemed to have affected us here that much. In fact, if things keep rolling along like they are, then we might be forced to find a bigger location at some point down the road.

With the recent boom in the provinces housing market, local businesses are currently enjoying a period of unparalleled expansion. Its definitely a good time to be in this industry, Pardy says. And companies like ours are poised for even more growth in the coming years.

Established in 1996, Stone Depot is actively involved in the operation of five different quarries within the Maritime region, and imports products from other quarries across North America and around the world.

We have everything for both the new home owner and those looking to upgrade or renovate their existing property, Pardy says, including flagstone, building stone, wall stone, steps, rockery stone and tiling.
