Shawn Dowling, manager of McLennan Sales, accepts the Burnside Business of the Year award for Industrial Business for Judy Farnell of Farnell Packaging, last year’s winner in this category.
"We're so proud."
So says an employee at McLennan Sales, the winner of this year's Burnside Business of the Year Award in the Industrial category.
"Winning is great," echoes Branch Manager Shawn Dawling. "It's a huge pick me up for the staff. I think we're going to go with a banner!"
McLennan Sales, located at 111 Wright Ave., is a division of Emco Corporation. It is by far the largest stocking distributor of waterworks materials in the Maritime Provinces and also services other construction industry needs. According to Dawling, this is one of their busiest times of the year, but he says winning the Burnie award makes all the hard work worth it.
"We've had some hard challenges to face over the past two years and winning the Burnie Award sends a clear message to our teammates and our customers that we're stronger than ever."
The Burnside Business of the Year Awards are handed out based on customer voting. Customers fill in ballots online or at the nominated business to support their favourites and voice their approval for the level of customer service.
"You know, it's no small thing for a customer to take the time to fill out a ballot," Dawling says. "Even if it only takes 30 seconds, that's time spent that they aren't required to spend, and in today's business environment it's rare for people to take time out to say, 'You did a great job.' It's great to have this many customers who did take that time to show their appreciation for us.
"We're honoured and it's put a real bounce in our step," he adds. "The company president called me on the Friday night after the awards were given out to congratulate us. Good news travels fast!"
Dawling says the McLennan Sales team in Burnside, the six sales staff and three warehouse personnel, want all their customers to know how much they value their business and support.
"We've all worked tremendously hard these past few years to meet their needs. It's great to get this tangible message that we're on the right path."
