Helly Hansen Canada Ltd (HHCL) has been awarded a Department of National Defense contract by Public Works Government Services Canada to manufacture the Maritime Pouch inflatable life preserver.

This life preserver is standard issue for all Royal Canadian Naval personnel and any additional persons participating in naval operations while on board any of Her Majesty's Canadian Warships.

The life saving device is a protective pouch worn on a belt around the waist. The pouch is easily accessible, but at the same time doesn't obstruct the user's movement. In the event of an emergency, the life preserver is removed from the pouch, positioned around the neck and manually inflated.

The contract value is $510,851.09 to deliver 1,800 units. All items will be manufactured at Helly Hansen's Burnside plant.

HHCL has a long history in developing and supplying technical flotation products and services for workers in hazardous conditions.

"We have a world-class manufacturing facility in Burnside employing more than 130 people," says Ben Neaves, vice president of Operations. "Helly Hansen is excited to help protect the men and women of our Canadian Forces through producing this product and leveraging our unique manufacturing capabilities in N.S."
